Beer production in the world increased to 34.7 billion litres<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, EU countries produced 32.7 billion (bn) litres of beer with an alcohol content of more than 0.5% and 2 billion litres of beer with an alcohol content of less than 0.5% or no alcohol content at all, totalling 34.7 bn litres.<\/span><\/p>\n

Compared to 2023, the production of beer with an alcohol content of more than 0.5% in the EU increased slightly by 0.6% (+0.2 billion litres), while the production of beer with an alcohol content of less than 0.5% increased by 11.1% (+0.2 billion litres). <\/span><\/p>\n

The list of leading EU manufacturers remains unchanged in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Germany continues to lead the way as the leading producer of beers with a strength of more than 0.5% alcohol, with 7.2 billion litres (22.2% of total EU production), as in 2023. <\/span><\/p>\n

Germany is closely followed by Spain with 4.0 billion litres (12.3% of total EU production) and Poland with 3.4 billion litres (10.6%). <\/span><\/p>\n

The Netherlands with 2.2 billion litres (6.8%) and Belgium with 2.1 billion litres (6.3%) were also among the top five producers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Netherlands is the leading exporter and France is the leading importer<\/span><\/p>\n

Maintaining its record as a leading beer exporter, the Netherlands led the EU in total exports (within and outside the EU) of beer containing alcohol in 2024. However, compared to 2023, beer exports in this country decreased by 12% (-0.2 billion litres).<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond the Netherlands, the main exporters in 2024 were Germany and Belgium (both exported 1.4 billion litres), the Czech Republic (0.6 billion litres) and Ireland (0.5 billion litres).<\/span><\/p>\n

On the import side, France continued to be the largest importer of beer containing alcohol in 2024 with 0.8 billion litres. Other major importers were Italy with more than 0.7 billion litres, Spain and Germany with almost 0.6 billion litres each, and the Netherlands with almost 0.5 billion litres each.<\/span><\/p>\n
