Varus received the first tranche of almost UAH 630 million from the EBRD to expand its network
Varus supermarket chain has received the first tranche of a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In July, the company received almost UAH 630 million of the total loan amount of over UAH 1 billion. Varus will receive the rest of the funds by the end of the year. The money was allocated as part of a UAH 2.2 billion project to improve food security.
The funds will be used to expand the network, increase business sustainability and implement energy-efficient solutions. Varus plans to install solar panels, modernise lighting, introduce reversible split air conditioning systems and develop sustainable logistics. For the company, this is not just business development, but a transition to a green economy as part of the GET (Green Economy Transition) approach.
The company signed a cooperation agreement with the EBRD in March 2024. The financing will help to strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian private sector and the stability of food supplies in a challenging economic environment. The company plans not only to expand its presence in different regions of the country, but also to implement modern technological solutions to improve efficiency.
The cooperation with the EBRD is another step towards sustainable development for Varus, which is in line with global trends in environmental responsibility and energy efficiency. The expansion of the network will help improve the availability of food products, develop logistics infrastructure and support Ukrainian producers.
The EBRD has clear criteria for financing: transparency, business responsibility and the ability of projects to positively impact the Ukrainian economy. Varus meets all these requirements thanks to the work of a team that turns ambitious plans into reality every day.
This is an important signal not only for the Varus network, but also for the entire Ukrainian economy. Despite the war, geopolitical instability, and related risks, major international financial institutions continue to invest in Ukrainian companies. Lending to such projects shows that investors believe in our business, people, and the future of the country, and confirm this belief with real actions.
